SUMMARY:Legal & Ethical Implications- Insurers' Use of ChatGPT
DESCRIPTION:CEFLI’s October Joint Educational Webinar featured CEFLI Affiliate Member Maynard Nexsen on the legal and ethical implications with insurers’ use of ChatGPT & other AI in connection with policy administration.   According to OpenAI\, ChatGPT is a model that “…interacts in a conversational way.  The dialogue format makes it possible for ChatGPT to answer follow-up questions\, admit its mistakes\, challenge incorrect premises\, and reject inappropriate requests.”  While ChatGPT is a powerful tool with the potential to revolutionize how we do business\, we need to consider more than “what” we can do.  We need to consider “how” best to leverage the tool. \nPresentation | Recording \n  \n

SUMMARY:Data Retention and Disposition (Featuring Guidehouse)
DESCRIPTION:CEFLI’s June Joint Educational Webinar on Data Retention and Disposition was presented by Pete Pearlman and Zachary Evans of CEFLI Affiliate Member Guidehouse.  \nWith increasing regulatory scrutiny on data retention and disposition (e.g.\, NYDFS 500\, CCPA/CPRA\, NAIC Model Law #674)\, it is more important than ever for financial institutions to ensure their data disposition practices are robust enough to stand up to this evolving landscape. \nThe Joint Educational Webinar addressed existing and future regulations\, the complexity of today’s data disposition challenges and it offered potential solutions that financial institutions\, including life insurers\, can implement to stay fully compliant today and in the years to come. \nPresentation Materials | Webinar Recording

SUMMARY:The Decline of the SSA Death Master File and the Impact on Insurers
DESCRIPTION:The Decline of the Social Security Administration Death Master File and the Impact on Insurers\nIn 2011\, a change to the SSA Death Master File (DMF) fundamentally altered the Death Audit landscape resulting in challenges to Death Audit providers accompanied by a significantly increased burden placed on insurance companies to accurately identify deaths of policy holders.  Because of this\, missed deaths are leading to overpayments for insurance companies in their Pension Risk Transfer (PRT) and Structured Settlements lines of business.  In Long Term Care (LTC)\, missed decedents are causing companies unnecessary and significant reserves\, fraud and several other issues. \nGreg Cunningham\, Mike Irey\, and Dan Ursin of PBI Research Services shared with us why the DMF is declining\, the impact disparate data solutions have on insurance companies and offered suggestions for best practices on how to minimize or solve the problem.  \nLink to Recording | Link to Presentation

SUMMARY:Secure Act 2.0 (Faegre Drinker)
DESCRIPTION:SECURE Act 2.0 (Act) is a lengthy and complex law that mandates certain changes and has optional provisions that can benefit employers. \nThe Act expands RMD requirements for some workers\, increases 401(k) contribution limits for older workers\, gives employers the option to treat student loan payments like retirement plan contributions for purposes of retirement contribution matching\, offers incentives for some low- and middle-income workers\, creates greater 529 plan flexibility and it incentivizes businesses to create retirement plans for their employees.  Not surprising\, provisions of the Act have annuity impacts. \nThe Educational Webinar featured Fred Reish\, Partner at CEFLI Affiliate Member Faegre Drinker\, who provided insight regarding the key provisions of the SECURE Act 2.0.  Mr. Reish summarized the annuity impacts and summarized the provisions in effect in 2023 and the provisions that will go into effect in 2024. \nThe Joint Educational Webinar offered a unique opportunity to hear from a leading industry expert on a technical subject that begs to be unpacked. \nLink to Recording | Link to Presentation
