The Compliance and Ethics Forum for Life Insurers (CEFLI), the life insurance industry’s leading non-advocacy organization serving the needs of compliance and ethics professionals in the life insurance industry, is seeking a President & CEO.
About CEFLI:
CEFLI is a not-for-profit, nonadvocacy organization whose mission is to serve the needs of the life insurance industry’s compliance and ethics professionals. CEFLI is the only organization in the life insurance industry devoted exclusively to compliance and ethics. CEFLI fulfills its mission by convening various Forums and events to work with member company representatives and state and federal regulators to identify current compliance and ethics challenges facing the life insurance industry and to examine appropriate solution strategies. CEFLI’s membership is comprised of over 80 of the leading life insurance companies in the United States. CEFLI also maintains membership opportunities for organizations that can demonstrate an appropriate substantive nexus to the work CEFLI performs on behalf of the life insurance industry.
President & CEO:
CEFLI’s President & CEO leads the organization, its staff and its member companies to fulfill CEFLI’s mission in a variety of different ways:
- Developing, through consultation with the CEFLI Board of Directors, the strategic “vision” for CEFLI’s continued growth and future development;
- Monitoring the marketplace for life insurance and annuity products to identify relevant and timely compliance challenges facing the life insurance industry.
- Serving as a leader within the life insurance industry.
- Managing the operations of CEFLI’s events and activities including:
- Annual Conference
- Advanced Compliance Forum
- Educational Webinar Series
- Compliance Fundamentals Training Conference
- Compliance Leadership Development Forum
- CCO Forum
- Summit Meetings
- Compliance & Ethics Committee
- Subject Matter Forums
- CEFLI’s Clearinghouse
- Serving as CEFLI’s primary Member Relations representative to retain its current member companies and to recruit new life insurance companies and Affiliate Member organizations to become CEFLI members.
- Representing CEFLI at industry and regulatory conferences through active engagement and leadership.
- Reinforcing CEFLI’s nonadvocacy role by maintaining strong relationships with regulators including representatives from the NAIC, state insurance departments, FINRA and the SEC.
- Managing administrative matters (e.g., finance/budget/dues, payroll, benefits, etc.) essential to maintaining CEFLI’s ongoing operations as a not-for-profit organization.
- Managing meetings of the CEFLI Board of Directors.
- Managing CEFLI’s staff to achieve CEFLI’s goals and objectives and to provide events and activities to fulfill CEFLI’s organizational mission for the benefit of its membership.
Qualifications:
15-20 years of relevant senior-level leadership experience in life insurance company compliance and/or legal-related matters and recognition as a leader in the life insurance industry. JD, MBA or applicable graduate education, preferred. Prior experience leading and managing a team or organization including financial management and budget responsibilities. Strong organizational skills. Strong public speaking and writing skills. Strong commitment to promoting sound ethical practices in the life insurance industry. Ability to create new relationships and maintain existing relationships with key stakeholders. Computer skills are essential including familiarity with Microsoft Suite products including Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint. Experience working with electronic delivery platforms including Microsoft Teams, Webex and Zoom products, preferred.
Special Considerations:
Position requires ability to work in a work-at-home environment (i.e., CEFLI maintains a “virtual” office).
Travel 25-35%.
Unusual hours – i.e., weekends, evenings, as necessary, during busy times.
Must be able to handle multiple projects simultaneously.
